De La Hoya: With Ireland behind Golden Boy Quigley can make his mark on biggest stage

Adding to its stellar international lineup, Golden Boy Promotions is pleased to announce the signing of Irish former amateur star Jason Quigley to an exclusive promotional contract.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have signed with Golden Boy Promotions,” said the 22-year-old middleweight, a native of Stranorlar. “I can’t wait to have my first pro fight. This is an amazing opportunity and I will give it my all.”

“Jason Quigley is part of the next generation of European boxers who are about to make their mark on the international stage, and we believe he has the skill and determination to go very far in the future,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “It also doesn’t hurt that he has the great nation of Ireland behind him, and I know they will support him wherever he goes.”

Hailing from Balleybofey in County Donegal, Ireland, 22-year-old Jason Quigley became the first Irish fighter to win a Silver medal at the AIBA World Amateur Boxing Championships in 2013, the thrilling cap on a stellar amateur career that saw him garner several accolades since he laced up the gloves for the first time.

Among his accomplishments are gold medals in the 2013 European Championships, the 2009 European Youth tournament, and the 2012 European U23 tournament, and while he was considered to be a strong candidate to compete in the 2016 Olympics, he has decided to chase his pro dreams in 2014 and beyond.

A date, site, and opponent for Quigley’s professional debut will be announced shortly.
