Darren Cruise wants ‘Dynamite’ clash with Conrad Cummings at Windsor Park

Darren Cruise [8(2)-6(0)] is looking for what he believes will be an explosive dust up with his fellow ‘Dynamite’ at Windsor Park.

The Rosscommon native is interested in providing opposition for Conrad Cummings [13(6)-2(0)-1] on the undercard of the Tyrone native’s stablemate Carl Frampton’s August 18th fight night.

Cummings has yet to be confirmed on the card, which itself was only ‘officially’ announced on Saturday, but has been ticking over since his decisive points loss to Dublin’s Luke Keeler and will be keen to put his second career defeat behind him.

Cruise is confident of defeating Cummings but is more than willing to offer the Jamie Moore-trained fighter the chance to return with victory in an al-Irish clash.

Indeed, with some fans suggesting Luke Jackson – the fighter that should be confirmed as Frampton’s opponent on Wednesday – isn’t strong enough for a stadium fight. the Westerner believes a fight between himself and Cummings would provide serious undercard excitement.

“It would be a great domestic fight,” Cruise, who has also been linked to Vladimir Belujsky, contacted Irish-Boxing.com to say.

“I have nothing bad to say about Conrad he is an excellent fighter and I think this fight makes a lot of sense for both of us,” added the Castlerea man before explaining why this is the case.

“He is coming off a more convincing loss to Luke Keeler than me. Styles make fights and I think myself against Conrad has the recipe for a great fight on such a big bill.”

“I’m not going to try make this fight by bad mouthing him – again, I have nothing negative to say only it’s a great fight. So if Conrad wants a good fight on the Frampton bill I’m here.”

Cruise, who put an Irish title ultimatum on the Belusjky bout, thinks any clash with Cummings is Irish title worthy.

The solider has twice fought for the strap and lost by a round to JJ McDonagh at super middleweight and Luke Keeler at middle. He remains desperate to secure a green strap and believes current champion Keeler may vacate, providing passage for him and Cummings to fight for the title on the anticipated Windsor Park fight night.

“I think this fight for the Irish middleweight title makes a lot of sense. I am sure Luke has  to vacate that belt now, so myself against Conrad would be a brilliant fight for the belt.”

Cummings has called for a rematch with Keeler – although this has been dismissed by the Dubliner who also looks likely to feature on the Windsor Park bill.

The Coalisland fighter feels he underperformed in that WBO European title clash and wants to make amends – and a clash with Cruise does indeed make sense as a comeback fight.
