Darragh Foley sends message to Ohara Davies after comeback win

Darragh Foley told Ohara Davies he is coming ‘smack’ him after returning to winning ways in Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion this morning.

The Australia-based Dubliner won every round of his comeback fight with Indonesian journeyman Willem Reyk and put behind him a points defeat to IBF European light welterweight champion Akeem Ennis Brown, which was suffered in London late last year.

Having already held ranking belts with the WBC, WBA, and WBO, ‘Super’ is keen to spend the rest of the year pushing back towards title fights – and also has his eye on  controversial Londoner Davies [18(14)-2(1)].

Speaking after a four-round win claimed whilst in first gear, Foley described how “it was a good four rounds to get the head back together.”

“The last defeat hit me hard. I shouldn’t have lost but now the ‘get back’ is underway – part one is done.”

“I was showboating a bit and some people weren’t happy with the shenanigans but I’m in there to express myself. That’s the way it should be,” he said reflecting on the fight.

Foley improves to 16(8)-3(0)-1 following the win and, within seconds of looking back on his performance, the colourful Blanchardstown was keen to look forward.

Big fights are the goal and, as proved previously, Foley isn’t afraid of any names in the division. He issued a come get it call to all 140lbs fighters, but reserved special mention for ‘Two Tanks’.

Davies and Foley had shared words before the Dubliner’s last reverse, indeed the English fighter walked Brown into the ring and goaded Foley has he attempted to get through the ropes.

Now Foley wants a fight with a man that is also on Tyrone McKenna’s hit list.

“I’m back in the zone. Anyone in the 140lb division can get it. Ohara Davies – I’m going to smack you soon!” he promised.

Davies, a managerial stablemate of Foley under MTK, is currently without a fight date having lost his last outing to another common stablemate in Jack Catterall.
