Anthony Cacace could be cruising toward Santa Cruz is he registers victory in Birmingham tomorrow night, according to manager Pat Magee.

The Belfast fighter challenges Sam Bowen for the British super-featherweight title on the top of a BT Sports broadcast card in Birmingham.

However, the win would have ramifications beyond domestic for the mercurial talent according to his manager.

Magee reveals a world ranking and not just the title is on the line on the Frank Warren show. Victory would move Cacace further up the WBA ladder -and considering the WBA world title is held by former Carl Frampton foe, Leo Santa Cruz – the ‘Apache’ would then be within his rights to hunt down the Mexican.

“This is a defining moment in Anthony’s career. If be beats Bowen then I would be confident he will be rated by the WBA and then, right away, you’re on a path to Santa Cruz,” said Magee when speaking to David Kelly of the Belfast Telegraph.

“After winning earlier in the year Anthony was in their top 15 so I would expect the same thing to happen this time because Bowen is a higher calibre of opponent – probably the best Anthony has faced so far.”

Bowen may be the best Cacace has faced to date, but Magee is confident his charge has what it takes to inflict a first career defeat on the Leicester man.

“Bowen has a world rating with the WBO and clearly has his own world title ambitions so it just shows you how big a win it would be for Anthony and I believe he has has the all attributes to deliver it.”
