Crocker changes coach – big punching talent makes training switch

Big punching prospect Lewis Crocker [9(6)-0] has made a coaching change.

The 22 year old has teamed with Gerard McManus and Daniel Anderson.

The Belfast fighter will now train out of the Gleann ABC gym.

The move was confirmed yesterday as ‘The Croc’ leaves coach Ray Ginley for what will be his third coaching team having began his career under the legendary John Breen.

Ginley, who looks after BUI Celtic super middleweight champion Padraig McCrory, oversaw nine straight wins – six of which have come inside the distance – for the much fancied talent yet to put a foot wrong in the ring.

However, Crocker now follows Stephen Donnelly in making the switch from Ginley to McManus and Anderson.

The Gleann gym and stable has been growing of late. Conrad Cummings is another new recruit joining the team after electing to train closer to home and amicably parting ways with Jamie Moore.

So Crocker now teams up with Paddy Gallagher, Cummings, Donnelly, Taylor McGoldrick, Owen O’Neill and Julio Cesar in his new base.

There have been no suggestions Crocker has fallen out with the Ginleys’, but when questions were raised about his lack of activity in comparison to other top prospects – particularly during a nine month lay off – there were suggestions he wasn’t in the gym between fights.

In may be a case that he felt needed a fresh and new environment to maintain focus.

In fairness to the fighter and his previous regime, he was trusted with some serious step ups of late and has dealt with them with relative ease.

The fighter, who looks likely to appear on the October 11 Ulster Hall show topped by Paddy Barnes, beat the tricky Jumanne Camero and the stubborn former French champion Karim Aliliche already this Summer.
