Court delay won’t force Frampton to adjourn world title plans

Carl Frampton [26(15)-2(0)] says the rescheduling of his High Court case with Cyclone Promotions will have no impact on him as he bids to regain world honours this year.

Frampton initially stated he wouldn’t fight until all legal proceedings were settled, but made those comments when he believed the court case would play out in May of this year.

However, the fighter, who is counter suing Cyclone Promotions and former manager Barry McGuigan and Sandra McGuigan for alleged earnings in the region of £4million, whilst defending an allegation of breach of contract, has seen the case move backed to September.

It’s not ideal for ‘The Jackal’, but he is adamant it won’t affect his career or his performances.

The former two weight world champion will return in August on the top of an East Coast Top Rank bill and victory there would most likely set up a WBO world title shot in December.

Speaking to the Irish News about the delay in proceedings, Frampton said, “I was looking for the court case to go ahead in May and the other side asked for an adjournment.”

“I put my career on hold for a while to get this court case out of the road so I said: ‘If there’s going to be an adjournment, I’m fighting in August and I’d like to get a fight in before the end of the year. We’re not asking for the adjournment so do us a favour and can we have it in the first week of September?’

“The judge granted that so it doesn’t make a difference.

“I’ll fight in August, go on a holiday and then be back for it and fight before the end of the year again,” he added before stressing it’s not having an impact on day to day training.

” My team know my story inside out so it’s not a day-to-day thing for me.

“I want to get it over with but I’m half looking forward to it to be honest.”
