Continental ring King Doheny looking to retain title with knock out win -

TJ Doheny is ready to step it up a notch when he takes to the ring in Roadhouse, New South Wales, Australia.

The Portlaoise puncher puts his Pan Asian Boxing Association title on the line against former champ Kaenpetch Sithpoopetch and is determined to put on a show for in front of Sydney’s Irish contingent on St Patrick’s weekend.

Most would argue Ireland’s only Continental champion has over achieved to date, claiming a title that the likes of Bernard Dunne defeater Poonsawat used a stepping stone to World success in just his fifth fight. The 27 year year old further solidified a top 15 World ranking by defending the strap twice.

However, ‘The Power’ doesn’t think he has showed the full extent of his capabilities just yet hinting he showed a tendency to be cagey after skipping Area and National level to fight for the European title equivalent so early in his career.

Doheny plan’s to rectify that in Sydney tomorrow night (morning) Irish time and is in confident mood ahead of just his seventh fight.

“I got some good sparring with Olympian Luke Jackson in the build up to this fight and I’ve left no stone unturned. I won’t be as cagey as I was in my last fight this time round. I felt like I went into cruise mode once I was on top, but this time if I find an opening I’m taking it,” Doheny told Irish-boxing.com before reiterating the point.

“Be it the first round or the twelfth I am going to go for it.”

The unfortunately named Sithpoopetch man’s the opposite corner in Sydney tonight and Doheny admits he knows little about his foe, but is confident he won’t need the Luck of the Irish on a card with a big Emerald feel.

“I am fighting Kaenpetch from Thailand. He fought under different name in the past and is a former PABA champ, other than that I have no real idea of his true record. It is great to be boxing on Paddy’s weekend and I am really excited to put on a show in front of a big Sydney Irish crowd.”
