Conrad Cummings wins Big Apple Brawl

Conrad Cummings was involved in a real scrap tonight on the Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz undercard, but emerged from six bad-tempered rounds with professional win number ten.

Facing Cleveland’s Dante Moore, the Tyrone middleweight scored a points victory after a hard fight where he gave and took plenty of leather.

Cummings began as the aggressor, throwing the greater number of shots, but had trouble finding the slick Ohio fighter in the opening round.

The second stanza was more of a fight, and the Coalisland puncher shipped a couple, but landed some eye-catching bodywork on the inside.

The Irishman tried to box more in the third round and jabbed well, but was caught with a couple of silly overhand rights.

The pair went to war in the fourth, with the bull-like Cummings dominating and almost stopping Moore who just about hung on.

The American had something of a revival in the penultimate round, landing some big shots, but Dynamite kept pouring forward.

The final round was a hectic affair. A low blow from Cummings was not well-received by Moore who then hit the Irishman as his back was turned and the round was reduced to a messy brawl before the final bell with Cummings flooring his opponent in the final minute.

There was no doubt who the winner was though, with the crowd-pleasing Coalisland man taking the decision on the cards (59-53, 58-54 x2. Moore was deducted a point in the fifth for spitting out his gumshield multiple times).

The hard fought win sees Cummings improve his ledger to 10(4)-0-1, while the tough Moore falls to 9(4)-2(0)-2.

Cummings, fighting on his sixth World title undercard, will now turn his attention back to domestic titles following his fruitful American sojourn.
