Conrad Cummings targets Luke Keeler rematch following “perfect” comeback

Conrad Cummings [14(6)-2(0)-1] believes he is back firing on all cylinders after what he describes as a below-par performance versus Luke Keeler.

The Tyrone middleweight was decisively defeated by Keeler back in April and made his return to the ring on Saturday night with arguably a career-best win.

Cummings hurt and dominated Nicky Jenman over six rounds on the Carl Frampton v Luke Jackson undercard at Windsor Park in Belfast and feels confident he would defeat Keeler if the pair were to meet again.

The Coalisland man certainly looked improved versus Jenman. The shackles seemed to be off, somewhat, in the under-the-radar contest, with Cumming swarming the Brighton boxer and hurting and almost stopping him to the body

Looking back at the win, Cummings told IFL TV that “it was the perfect fight for me.”

“Nicky Jenman is no easy opponent to get back in with. He’s not a world beater but he’s a fucking decent opponent, 20-odd wins, he came here to win and he gave me a good fight.”

“I almost had him a few times, I could see his legs go, and it’s probably my own fault for not putting the second or third phase on him and getting him out of there. It’s always about getting the balance with me and not getting carried away.”

“I won every round and I was getting my groove back. I’m just delighted to get back to winning ways.”

Cummings continues to have his mind set on a rematch with ‘Cool Hand Luke’.

‘Mr. Dynamite’ has hinted at imperfect preparations ahead of the Keeler loss and claims it wasn’t the real Conrad Cummings in there that night in the Odyssey.

Invigorated by the win over Jenman, he noted how “I’m just finding my groove again, getting back to what I do best, getting back to the old Conrad Cummings.”

“That was getting the rust off, getting my groove back,” he added before addressing the Keeler [15(5)-2(1)-1] situation.

While the Ballyfermot fighter is looking forward, Cummings is hopeful that a repeat can be made.

“I’d like to correct that [result],” he outlined. “Luke won the fight fair and square. There were a few things that went wrong in the lead-up but I wont get in to that, he won the fight, well done Luke.”

“Let’s get it on again, it was a good fight, exciting for the supporters, and I’d love to get the opportunity to get it going again.”
