Competitive cousin Cummings inspiring McGoldrick

Not quite a sibling rivalry but the competition between Coalisland cousins his having a positive effect claims Taylor McGoldrick [3(1)-0].

The super middleweight prospect has recently been joined in the gym by Conrad Cummings and claims his cousins presence alongside him in camp has spurred him on ahead of his #MTKFightNight bout scheduled for the Ulster Hall this Friday.

‘Dynamite’ has recently migrated from Jaime Moore’s Manchester gym to train under Gerard McManus in Belfast alongside the likes of Paddy Gallagher, Owen O’Neill and of course McGoldrick.

The 25 year old Tyrone fighter, who trades leather for the fourth time on the undercard of Tyrone McKenna and Darragh Foley’s Belfast Dublin derby, claims the middleweight has added further vibrancy to the gym.

He also claims the friendly rivalry between the pair is pushing him to train harder and predicts once the pair start sparring they will have the kind of sessions people would pay to see.

“It’s great to have my cousin Conrad in camp with me now. His father trained both of us as amateurs growing up and we’ve always been good mates,” McGoldrick said.

“The ‘craic’ in camp is great now. It’s brought a lot of life into the environment and I know Conrad is loving training with me too because we grew up together. All is good.

“We’re both very competitive and always trying to beat each other every day and in every single exercise we do.

“I think it’s healthy. We push each other on and it’ll be even more competitive when we start sparring each other!”

McGoldrick registered knock out victory for the first time in his career last time out as he stopped Gianni Antoh in a round.

Post the win he revealed he felt he had rediscovered the power that was affected during a period of injury and is planning to show he can punch with both hands this coming Friday.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back in there next week and showing off the power I have in both hands.”

Joining the prospect on the card is a WBO European light-heavyweight title showdown between former sparring partners Steven Ward and Liam Conroy and another title bout in Tyrone McKenna and Darragh Foley’s WBC International super-lightweight collision.

Popular local welterweight Paddy Gallagher takes on undefeated prospect Liam Wells, Lewis Crocker faces former French champion Karim Aliliche in another eight-rounder and Caoimhin Agyarko and Owen O’Neill look to steal some thunder on the undercard.
