Common goal – Feargal McCrory and John Breen moving towards another title

New ‘Summer Brawl’ bill-topper Feargal McCrory [10(4)-0] is closing in on a Commonwealth title shot according to legendary Belfast trainer John Breen.

The Tyrone fighter makes the move back down to super featherweight after winning the Irish lightweight title but moves up the show ladder and will top the MHD card set for the Europa Hotel and Saturday May 18th.

It’s significant reward for the ticket-selling Coalisland favourite but it is just another step on the road to more domestic titles

Breen feels the fight against game Nicaraguan Yesner Talevera [15(4)-6(1)-1] will move ‘Fearless Feargal’ closer to a Commonwealth title shot.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Feargal can do 12 rounds. He’s a very dedicated lad and in the last fight against Kelly he showed he could go at a good pace for 10 rounds so he’s ready for a major title shot,” said Breen.

“This guy he is facing is more experienced at a higher level than Feargal so he’s a good opponent at this stage of his development and then I hope we will be closing in on a shot at the Commonwealth title.”

The belt was last held by James Tennyson, who also features on the May 17th bill, and there is no vacant title fight pending – suggesting that McCrory could slide into the mix.

The popular Tyrone southpaw certainly has the backing that warrants a big fight, Breen believes.

The trainer, who also coaches Cathy McAleer and Stephen Webb, outlined how “Feargal’s profile certainly rose after his exciting win at the Ulster Hall. People are starting to sit up and take notice of him and he sells more tickets than many of the local fighters.”

“I want to see him put in another good performance and show people he deserves a big break.”
