Coming to America – Ray Moylette and Niall O’Connor secure first 2019 fight dates

Ray Moylette [11(4)-1] will fight for the first time since his sensational but ultimately disappointing [in terms of the result] Castlebar homecoming next month.

‘Sugar Ray’ will trade leather on a July 12th card in America according to his coach Paschal Collins.

Full details of the bout will be confirmed in the coming days, but it’s safe to predict the Mayo man will maintain his relationship with Ken Casey and fight on a Murphys Boxing show

Encore Boston Harbor is said to be the venue for Moylette’s eighth fight in America.

It will be the first time the popular fighter will be in the ring since his lose to tough Mexican Christian Uruzquieta in December.

The 29-year-old former amateur standout saw his stock rise in defeat live on TG4 as he got up of the floor twice in a round in front of a vocal and sizable Royal Theatre crowd.

Also appearing on the card will be somewhat forgotten talent Niall O’Connor [5(4)-0].

The Ballybrack super featherweight has impressed with four knockout wins from five fights to date, but after a public fallout with Victor Rabei has gone quiet of late.

Like Moylette, he hasn’t fought this year, indeed like Moylette, who he trains alongside in the Celtic Warrior Gym, O’Connor’s last outing was in Castlebar.

It’s a massive chance for the Dubliner to impress and open doors across the water and he will be involved in a competitive six rounder as he looks to kick-start his career.

Elsewhere another who trains in the Dublin gym Owen Duffy [4(2)-1(0)] has been added to the Leeside Revolution card alongside Irish champion and stablemate Craig O’Brien.

The ticket selling Cavan fighter was due to appear on the Irish Invasion card in York Hall later this month, but will fight in Cork on July 20 instead.

Duffy joins the likes of Graham McCormack, Siobhan O’Leary, Stephen McAfee, Craig McCarthy, Sam Carroll and Craig O’Brien on the undercard of Noel Murphy and Jake Hanney’s Irish title fight.
