Irish light welter duo to feature on New York card

The Uprising Promotions bill in New York this December will have a distinctly Irish flavour.

The Amazura Concert Hall in Queens will play host to a bill on Friday December 7th which will feature a pair of Irish light welters based in the Empire State.

Noely Murphy, from Macroom and living in Woodlawn, and Larry Fryers, from Clones and living in East Durham, will both box on the show as they look to round off up-and-down 2018s.

For Murphy, it will be his first fight since losing to Trinidadian Mikkel LesPierre in a WBC USA title contest back in February – a bout in which a penultimate round point deduction served to deny him a majority draw.

Since the defeat, the rebuilding Murphy [12(2)-1(0)] has spent time in Colorado training with WBO light welterweight champion Maurice Hooker, helping him prepare for his title-winning performance versus Terry Flanagan during the Summer.

The Cork 24-year-old will return in a six round contest.

Stepping up to eight rounds will be ‘Lethal’ Larry Fryers [8(3)-1(1)].

The Monaghan 28-year-old lost for the first time on a Matchroom USA bill back in April, being stopped by dangerous Russian Nikolay Buzolin. Making a sharp return, Fryers scored wins in June and August against Anthony Woods and Mark Szoros respectively.

Opponents for both Irishmen will be confirmed in due course.

Also featuring on the card in just over seven weeks time will be Elton Dharry, Samuel Clarkson, Jose Gonzalez, Vladimir Tereshkin, Ariel Lopez, Sechew Powell, and Harrison Barba.
