Coach Taylor backs Sean Turner to take opportunity following big realisation

The penny has dropped!

Sean Turner is taking things seriously and ready to register a career-changing win on Saturday December 9th according to his coach Pete Taylor.

‘Big Sexy’has been handed the breakthrough opportunity he has been craving after securing a bout with Arnold Gjergjaj [30(22)-1(1)] in Basle, Switzerland.

The three-time Swiss amateur champ and current European #19 provides the MTK puncher with a chance to jump up the World rankings and register a bit of a scalp considering his sole reverse came against former two-weight champ David Haye.

The scalp possibility has certainly motivated the Shankill heavy if his coach is to believed.

In all bar one of his fights, an arguable if not overly controversial points defeat to Kamil Sokolowski, Turner has done what he has had to since turning pro.

Indeed he has impressed on more than one occasion, but has always appeared hungry for bigger fights. Turner [11(7)-1(0)] hasn’t been shy about calling friend or foe and has had back and forths with the likes of Dave Allen, Martin Rogan, Con Sheehan and Jason Gavern and it always seemed apparent he was keen to get past the journeyman phase.

He gets his chanceo over eight rounds in less than two weeks time and Taylor claims he has become driven as a result.

“It’s a great fight for Sean. He is a good opponent and we reckon he will suit Sean. It’s the first time Sean has put in a full camp. He is training hard and I am delighted with him,” Taylor explained.

“His weight is down to 110kg, he was boxing at 120-122kg before, but he is flying at the moment. He is taking it seriously. He is up at quarter to seven every morning running and he wants it. I think he could cause an upset.”

The heavyweight division at present is both exciting and lucrative. Any capable big man is only one good win away from securing a big fight.

It’s safe to say Gjergjaj was deemed good enough to top a bill live on Dave against a former World champion who had Anthony Joshua in his sights at the time a win over the aforementioned would open doors for the former amateur champion.

Turner seems to be aware that some bigger names in the division are crying out for respectable opponents while they try while bidding their time for a shot at one of the champions and that has given him added incentive.

“There are big opportunities there and he knows that, I think it’s the first time he has realised that. If he puts his head down he can be a force. Listen it’s a 50/50 and a great opportunity for Sean. He can cause an upset. We will try get this win and see what happens. If he wins he will be in the top 20 in the World. I am confident we will this fight.”
