Christian Uruzquieta warns Ray Moylette that he’s not coming to Mayo for a pay day

Christian Uruzquieta [17(6)-4(1)-1] is coming to Mayo to win and greatly enhance his world title chances.

The Mexican was this week confirmed as the opponent for Ray Moylette‘s homecoming this week and will man the away corner on what is being billed as breakout night for the local favourite.

However, the Latino lightweight is adamant he isn’t coming to Ireland for the pay day and is determined to ruin what promises to be a party atmosphere in the Royal Theatre Castlebar on Friday December 7th.

While he is intent on entertaining an Irish crowd, Uruzquieta is more than aware winning the WBC International rankings title could provide a favourable world ranking and move him toward a coveted world title shot – and, as a result, is more than motivated to win.

“It would be a great achievement to get the belt and to be able to get closer in search of the world title,” Uruzquieta told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I am preparing to win and with the help of God I know that I will win.”

Uruzquieta claims he is aware of Moylette [11(4)-0] and his capabilities but also claims he didn’t need any persuading to travel to Ireland to fight the Paschal Collins-trained former amateur star.

The lure of the rankings belt was just too much for 28-year-old who explained how “I know Ray is a good fighter with a great career as an amateur boxer but I like the big challenges and I’m sure we’ll give a great show.”

“As soon as I got word of this fight I accepted without hesitation, the money is not big, I am coming for the belt.”

The winner next month will enter the WBC Top 15 (likely Top 10) and into contention for a shot at the World title belt currently held but expected to be relinquished by Mikey Garcia.

Of course, both fighters are still a number of wins away from world title level but it remains a big step forward and one Uruzquieta feels ready to take.

The Mexican has on-the-road experience having fought in Canada five times, indeed Moylette’s Mayo foe has two wins and a draw from those trips – one of the wins coming against former Darragh Foley foe Steven Wilcox.

Excited about coming to Ireland and hopes to earn the respect of Irish fight followers and perhaps even create a reputation like he has in Canada where he has been signed up by United Promotions and is brought in regularly as a dangerous away opponent.

“I am very excited to go to fight a great country,” said the Mexico City man.

“I hope to return with the belt and a good memory of the Irish fans.”

“God has changed the winds in my favour.”
