Chris Blaney has message for “mouthpiece” Thomas Finnegan and targets JJ McDonagh title fight

The returning Chris Blaney [10(3)-1(0)] wants to settle his differences with both men who have dropped his name of late.

The Navan fighter returns after a period out due to an eye injury in England on Saturday February 16th but has eyes on 2019 fights both Thomas Finnegan [2(0)-0] and JJ McDonagh [16(8)-5(2)].

Post the ring rust-shaking February affair the Ricky Hatton-trained fighter wants back to back domestic dust ups in Dublin.

The ‘Ginja Ninja’s’ ultimate goal is a Meath v Westmeath Irish title fight with recent Chris Eubank Jr opponent McDonagh.

However, Blaney wants another fight before going into the clash which Assassin Promotions are extremely keen on.

Blaney is keen to fight Tallaght puncher Finnegan, who he has had social media back-and-forths with, although ‘Victorious’ hasn’t been victorious since June of 2017.

When announcing his ring return on social media, the BUI Celtic super middleweight title winner suggested big fights await and expanding on that when speaking to Irish-Boxing.com.

The Last Man Standing semi-finalist outlined how “big fights in Dublin, that only means one thing, an Irish title, and JJ McDonagh or anyone that wants to fight me for the Irish title.”

“Plus, if that other little mouthpiece, Thomas Finnegan, really does want it and isn’t all talk – I’ll fight him in March if he wants it or he really just is a shitbag,” he added before revealing his February fight against a yet to be confirmed opponent is really to test out his eye.

“This is more of a fight to see if the eye is actually 100%. It’s only a four rounder, but I’m back again in Dublin in March and that will be six or eight rounder.”

While he wants to test the eye next time out the Navan fighter is confident there shouldn’t be an issue.

“The eye injury is 100% now. I am back sparring and having no trouble with it,” he adds before discussing how frustrated it has found it to be out since the Last Man Standing card and March of 2018.

“It was horrible, I was still training, ticking over. It was very hard to keep training with all the lads when they had there sights sets for a fight while I was just doing it for the craic! Then again it was still nice to be part of the team training and pushing them all on.”

With talk of TG4 willing to commit long term to boxing and hoping to bring fight nights around the country, Blaney would be the front runner for any Meath show – despite not being signed to Assassin – and feels it would be a natural fit.

“That would be unbelievable. I get good support from Navan and Meath so I don’t see why not, maybe when I win the Irish title I could defend it in Navan!”
