Much like Craig McCarthy [7(2)-0-1], Chris Blaney [12(30-2(0)-2]believes he won the duo’s recent BUI middleweight Celtic title fight.

Similarly to his recent rival he too wants a return and believes any rematch should be for the Irish title.

The Meath favourite went eight bloody rounds with his Navan counterpart in Bolton just over a week ago. The BUI Celtic middleweight title was on the line, but wasn’t claimed as the 160lbs title clash was scored a draw.

Speaking last week McCarthy declared he was a clear winner, but Blaney felt he should have been given the nod, although he admitted it was a difficult fight to score.

“We thought we won by 2 or 3 rounds, but it was very messy, so you can’t blame the scoring. I wouldn’t of liked to score it to be honest. I did think maybe he should have been warned for using the head,” Blaney told Irish-boxing.com.

When asked about a rematch Blaney was adamant that is what he would like next- and again similar to the Desie fighter he thinks a repeat is worthy of an upgrade.

The Ricky Hatton trained fighter would like any possible return to be for the Irish rather than BUI Celtic title.

“Yes 100% and straight away,” Blaney said with regard to the repeat.

“Look it makes for and exciting rematch in the new year and for the Irish title.”

The “Ginja Ninja’ revealed the pair all but agreed to a rematch in the ring after the eight ‘messy’ rounds, but there was no talk over a pint as the Navan man had to head to hospital.

” The rematch was talked about straight away in the ring and we both agreed we would do it again. Waterford was mentioned but we will have to see the offer first.

“There was no drinking that night,” he adds. I spent the night in A&E and then had to go to Blackburn at 7am to get seen by specialist because the cut was so deep,” he added before admitting he was somewhat surprised by McCarthy’s performance.

“I was a little surprised. That was the best Craig on the night and fair play to him, but I still think I should of got the nod.”
