Chloe Fleck knows tweaks needed ahead of second Donna Barr war

Less than a month on from their thrilling Ulster final clash, Chloe Fleck and Donna Barr will do battle again.

The pair have both navigated their way through the light flyweight field to reach the Irish Elite final at the National Stadium in a repet of the Ulster final last month.

That time, at the famous Ulster Hall and shown live on BBCNI online, Fleck emerged victorious on a 3-2 split following a topsy-turvy contest.

The experienced Barr, who has returned from long-term injury, started well but the relentless Lisburn lady would get stronger and stronger throughout, forcing a count in the final round and taking the win.

It was somewhat the same in the Irish semi-final at the weekend, with Dubliner Courtney Daly starting her bout with Fleck well before she was reeled in by the strong Canal puncher.

Fleckwould admit afterwards that she tired during the exciting contest, which drew a large applause from the National Stadium crowd, but noted how “I found something to keep going, at this level you have to, don’t you?”

“I just got on with it and did it.”

Fleck always seems to be in entertaining fights, her style just dictates it, and she belives that her Barr rematch will be another classic.

However, the youngster has been working on things to ensure that the result will be more clear cut this time around

Fleck outlined: “Donna Barr in the final. It’ll be a good, tough fight.”

“I was rewatching the Ulster Hall final – When I’m leaning into her I have to take a step back and let the shots go. Sometimes I was just siting on her and I’ve been working on [correcting] that in the gym.”

The video sessions were not something she enjoyed, and Fleck explained how “I watched it back once but I don’t really like watching fights back – I hate it because you see all the things you’re meant to do and didn’t do.”

“It’s horrible to watch back so I watched it back once and left it that

“I’ll let my coaches watch it back and they can tell me [what to do].”
