Irish title fight confirmed for Ireland’s Last Man Standing

The first of a number of title fights on the the inaugural Ireland’s Last Man Standing fight night has been confirmed.

The eight-man Prizefighter-style tournament will take place at middleweight on Saturday March 3rd at the National Stadium in Dublin – however the Assassin-Red Corner show will also feature an additional undercard which will include an Irish light heavyweight title fight.

Assassin boxer Paddy McDonagh [11(0)-2(0)] will put his green belt on the line on the South Circular Road.

The Mullingar southpaw will make his first defence against Galway-Bristol boxer David Bailey [7(1)-0] on the big night at the home of Irish boxing.

McDonagh first won the belt in 2012, defeating John Waldron, but was stripped due to not making a defence. He subsequently reclaimed the vacant belt last Summer against Stevie Collins Jr.

Bailey is trained by Ennis coach Paddy Fitzpatrick, and the Boxing Union of Ireland appear to have made an exception to their own rules and allowed a fighter that has not yet boxed in a scheduled eight rounder to contest the Irish title.

Also confirmed for the undercard in just over eight weeks time will be Craig O’Brien, Victor Rabei, and Vladimir Belujsky.

The eight participants for the Last Man Standing portion of the bill will be confirmed on January 10th – along with TV and ticket details.
