Champions Night – Fight Card Report

The Champions Night at the Devinish Complex in Belfast didn’t disappoint with an excellent show and all the Irish fighters winning on the night with impressive performances.

Michael McKinson Vs Jan Salamacha (4×3 Welterweight)

Portsmouth native Michael McKinson started off the night with an impressive 40-36 points win over Jan Salamacha. McKinson wobbled his opponent in the first and continued to land big overhand lefts throughout to leave his opponent cut and bruised at the final bell.

Darren Cruise Vs Harry Matthews (4×3 Super Middleweight)

Darren Cruise put in a mature performance to beat the tough Englishman Matthews. Cruise’s defence was perfect throughout and he landed some big right and left hooks to unsettle the durable Matthews. The Roscommon man landed the cleaner shots and won by a points decision of 40-36.

Alan Donnellan Vs Iain Jackson (4×3 Super Middleweight)

Galway man Alan Donnellan bounced back from two recent losses to record a 40-35 points victory over Iain Jackson. Donnellan had his opponent down in the first and boxed well using the jab and landing some big punches against a slippery Jackson.

Gerard Healy Vs Liam Griffiths (4X3 Light Middleweight)

Belfast man Gerard Healy got back to winning ways with a dominant display to outbox and control the ring against Liam Griffiths. Healy, cheered on by a sizable support landed the cleaner punches throughout against an opponent more intent on dancing than fighting at times. Healy won on points by 40-36.

Paul Hyland Jr Vs Andy Harris (4×3 Lightweight)

Belfast Lightweight Paul Hyland Jr took his record to 3-0-0 with a comfortable 40-35 points victory over Andy Harris. Hyland looked to have had Harris down twice in the third but the referee judged that the gloves didn’t touch the canvas. Harris was down again in the fourth as Healy continued to dominate.

James Fryers Vs Lewis O’Mara (4×3 Lightweight)

Belfast Lightweight James Fryers won a 40-36 points victory over Lewis O’Mara. Fryers used the jab well and landed good combinations on the inside. Fryers outclassed O’Mara throughout and never looked in trouble.

Dee Walsh Vs Adam Grabiec (4×3 Light Middleweight) 

Dee Walsh put in the most impressive performance of the night while recording a 40-36 points victory over a tough  Adam Grabiec. Walsh always looked comfortable and in control, showing clever boxing skills to outclass his opponent. Walsh landed a number of big shots but the durable Grabiec stayed up where a lesser man would have gone down.

Daniel McShane Vs Kas Hussain (4×3 Super Featherweight)

Daniel ‘Insane’ McShane put in a classy performance to match his ring walk, outpointing Kas Hussain by 40-36. McShane stalked his opponent throughout, controlling the ring and creating angles to land punishing body shots that Hussain will no doubt be feeling for some time.

Tommy McCarthy Vs Dimitar Spaiyski (4×3 Cruiserweight)

Big Tommy McCarthy recorded the only knock out of the night in the final bout against Bulgarian Dimitar Spaiyski. McCarthy already had his opponent down on one knee early in the first before putting his opponent down a second time soon after and the referee waved it off to take McCarthy’s record to 3-0-0.
