Carl Frampton to return against recent world title holder Isaac Dogboe

Carl Frampton [26(15)-2(0)] will return to the ring against a former world champion as early as November 30.

‘The Jackal’ is set to fight for the first time since his reverse to Josh Warrington in December of 2018 in California – and according to reports in today’s Irish News and on BBC, former world champion and Frampton training partner Issac Dogboe [20(14)-2(1)]Ā will provide the opposition.

Despite talk of a super featherweight world title fight pursuit, the clash with the former WBO super bantamweight world title holder will play out at featherweight.

Frampton was forced to pulled out of a bout against Emmanuel Dominguez after a “freak accident” with an ornament broke a bone in his hand days before the August fight.

The hand appears to be on the mend and he claims he will be back punching in a matter of weeks.

Plus it now seems he will return earlier than expected, against higher profile opposition and in a much better fight.

Ghanaian-Brit Dogboe fought at the London 2012 Olympics, but didnā€™t medal. However, he has gone on to secure pro trinkets. The diminutiveĀ puncher stoppedĀ Jessie Magdaleno ā€“ who won a world title with victory over Nonito Donaire ā€“Ā to claim the WBO super bantamweight title in April of 2018.

After a successful defense againstĀ  Japanese opposition, the London-based fighter then lost the strap to noted Mexican puncher Navarrete. Indeed, Dogboe had two fights against the now reigning champ losing on points in December of last year before being stopped in the last round of a May rematch.

It’s certainly a more marketable fight than the called off August affair and there are some suggestions the 32-year-old could be getting a named fighter at the right time.

Dogboe was initially linked to Michael Conlan and aĀ  December 14 Madison Square Garden bout.

Conlan has predicted a step up for his first fight since selling out the Feile, but hasn’t dropped any names. His promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank has on the other-hand brought back up the name of Vladimir Nikitin – and the ‘Russian Revenge’ mission seems to be back on for a card that will featureĀ Terence Crawford vs Egidijus Kavaliauskas and air live on ESPN.Ā

Meanwhile the legal battle between boxer Carl Frampton and ex-manager Barry McGuigan will now take place next year. A full hearing of the legal dispute was supposed to begin today. A provisional date has now been set – January 20th.
