Carl Frampton claims Isaac Dogboe ignorance

Carl Frampton [26(15)-2(0)]  confirmed he has yet to agree to a fight with Isaac Dogboe [20(14)-2(1)].

‘News’ of a clash between the Top Rank fighter and the recent super bantamweight world champion broke early on September 5 and spread like wild fire.

‘The Jackal’ was said to fight for the first time since his reverse to Josh Warrington in California on November 30 and the London based Ghanaian was said to the be opponent.

However, speaking on his weekly podcast with Joe the Belfast favourite revealed he still doesn’t know who, where or even when he is fighting next.

One of only two Irish fighters to win world titles at two weights, Frampton admitted Dogboe was mentioned to him along with a few other 24 hours before the press all but had the fight made.

It’s seems that is as far as Dogboe talks have gone and a deal certainly hasn’t been done.

The 32-year-old doesn’t even know if California and November 30 will host his next fight.

“It was mentioned to me on a Wednesday about 5:30.  Dogboe was one of a couple of opponents, I’ll not say their names. That was Wednesday around 5 O’Clock … the next day on Twitter at 8am it’s ‘Frampton to fight Dogboe in November’,” Frampton said.

“It was like ‘whats going on here?’. When people were phoning me asking me ‘is this true?’ I am like ‘I haven’t a clue’,” he added before explaining he would be interested in trading leather with Olympian.

“It may well be a fight and well be my next fight, but at this point in time it’s a fight that I would be interested in.. but I don’t know if it’s happening.”

He doesn’t bring a world title to the table, but Dogboe, who was initially linked to Michael Conlan and a  December 14 Madison Square Garden bout, is a noteworthy comeback fight.

It’s is certainly a more marketable fight than the called off August affair – and there are some suggestions the 32-year-old would be getting a named fighter at the right time.

Ghanaian-Brit Dogboe fought at the London 2012 Olympics, but didn’t medal. However, he has gone on to secure pro trinkets. The diminutive puncher stopped Jessie Magdaleno – who won a world title with victory over Nonito Donaire – to claim the WBO super bantamweight title in April of 2018.

After a successful defense against  Japanese opposition, the London-based fighter then lost the strap to noted Mexican puncher Navarrete. Indeed, Dogboe had two fights against the now reigning champ losing on points in December of last year before being stopped in the last round of a May rematch.
