Burnett ready to emulate his boxing hero Carl Frampton

Carl Frampton’s World title winning heroics among many other things have made him an Irish sporting hero and a fighter much loved the World over.

Among his many admirers is former amateur stablemate Ryan Burnett but, unlike the majority of the sizable ‘Jackal Army,’ the 24 year old has had Frampton as a role model since he was a teen.

The Adam Booth-trained fighter claims he was always trying to emulate the Cyclone Promotions star when they were underage amateurs and now he gets the chance to do it as a pro.

The Matchroom talent challenges Lee Haskins for the IBF bantamweight crown at the SSE Odyssey Arena on June 10th and is not only looking to become Ireland’s latest World champ, but hopes to be a champion of Frampton standing.

“When I was younger I trained alongside Carl and he was a couple of years older than me. So what I wanted to do he was doing at the time so I was always looking up to him. So if (I was to name a boxing hero) it would be Carl,” Burnett explained.

“If there was any World Champion to look up to and role model to follow it’s definitely Carl Frampton.”

“Carl Frampton carries himself perfectly outside the ring. He is a great guy and everyone loves him. Inside the ring he isn’t just a World Champion he is a super champion.”

“He has got in there and proved it. He has the track record, so if I was to look up to anyone in terms of becoming a World champion it would be Carl.”

Aside from the World title fight, the undercard at present comprises of an Irish cruiserweight title fight between Luke Watkins and Ian Tims and a crossroads fight between Tommy McCarthy and Mike Perez alongside appearances from Carl McDonald, Sean Magee, Feargal McCrory, Matt Wilton, Tyrone McCullagh, Paul Hyland Jr, James Tennyson, Padraig McCrory, and Paddy Gallagher.

Tickets for ‘Belfast Boy’ on June 10th at the SSE Odyssey Arena cost £30, £40, £60, £100, and £150 (VIP), and can be bought from the boxers involved or HERE.
