Broken hand not broken spirit – Frampton as determined as ever

It may have broke his hand but Carl Frampton hasn’t let the bizarre hotel lobby incident that forced him out of his proposed clash with Emmanyel Dominguez break his spirit.

When ‘The Jackal’ first explained the injury that saw him pull out of his first fight since world title defeat to Josh Warrington at four days notice, he understandably cut a forlorn figure.

However, despite the fact he quickly called for a big fight before the end of the year, there were some who queried as to whether a fighter that considered retiring after his defeat in Leeds last December would fight on.

Some surmised the unlucky incident may end one of Ireland’s all time great’s love for the game and diminish his hunger as a result – yet, speaking this week, the former two weight world champion argues the opposite.

Far from being downcast about his final assault on the top of boxing being delayed by a bizarre injury, Frampton is more determined than ever to succeed.

“I was p*ssed off when it happened and I was angry when it happened but I feel like I’m more determined than ever to get straight back at it now,” he said.

“I want to hit the ground running. I start training today and I’m going to do as much as I can with my hand in this shape.

“It hasn’t been a struggle at all to start thinking about the next one. It’s added a bit of fuel to the fire. I’m genuinely more determined to get back in the mix now and start getting involved in big fights.”

As he continues his rehabilitation, Frampton is in upbeat mood and as eager as ever to regain momentum.

“It’s getting better. I saw a specialist on Monday and he’s very happy with how it’s healing. He says I could be punching in four weeks’ time. I have a scan in three weeks and then we’ll reassess.

There was suggestions Frampton may appear on the Top Rank December 14 card that Michael Conlan looks certain to fight on next.

However, Bob Arum has suggested a January 2020 date might be best suit for the 32-year-old’s return.
