James Tennyson [25(21)-3(3)] could possibly challenge for the British title in Liverpool on 23rd of November.

The Belfast lightweight is already penciled in for a mouthwatering clash on the Matchroom card and will face former Stephen Ormond foe Craig Evans [20(3)-2(1)-2] on the undercard of Callum Smith versus John Ryder.

The bout has been sanctioned as a final eliminator for the British title with the winner becoming next in line for current title holder Joe Cordina [10(7)-0].

However, the Welsh fighter will drop down in weight for his next fight. Cordina will test the waters at super featherweight on a Matchroom card in Monaco a week later on November 30.

The British and Commonwealth title holder meets Mexican Enrico Tinoco, who stopped an ill Jordan Gill in Nottingham earlier this year at the lower weight.

Cordina hasn’t officially vacated the title and Irish-boxing.com believe he is looking to keep his options open with regard to lightweight. The former Team GB star may move back up if the experiment fails.

However, considering the fact the WBA international super-featherweight ranking title is on the line, victory could put Cordina in a strong position at 130lbs.

Taking all that into account it’s quite possible both Tennyson and Evans’s teams could push the British Boxing Board of control to upgrade their eliminator to a British title fight.

If that is the case it will be second time the former European champion and recent world title challenger will fight for the Lonsdale belt.

The 26-year-old lost to Ryan Walsh as he challenged for the strap in his final fight at featherweight back in 2016.

If the British title isn’t on the line, the winner will still be next in the queue and is expected to come away with a top 5 ranking with the WBA.
