British Title fight CONFIRMED for Anto Cacace

Anto Cacace [17(7)-1(0)] has had his second shot at the British super featherweight title sealed.

The Belfast fighter was awarded mandatory status recently and he and champion Sam Bowen were ordered to enter negotiations for the fight.

Cacace’s manager, Pat Magee, had indicated that he would like to build on his fighter’s #13 ranking with the WBA but an agreement has been reached with WBO #9 Bowen.

The 27-year-old Ibstock talent is promoted by Frank Warren and managed by Carl Greaves and this team will host the fight, with the British Boxing Board of Control stating in their monthly circular that the clash will take place in July.

Warren’s schedule currently includes one July card – a big bill at the O2 Arena on Saturday July 13th to be headlined by a vacant British heavyweight title clash between young unbeaten prospects Nathan Gorman and Daniel Dubois.

This would look to be the destination for Bowen v Cacace but final confirmation is awaited.

It’s a second chance for 30-year-old Cacace who was edged by Martin J Ward for the British and Commonwealth titles back in the summer of 2017. A frustrating period ensued but ‘The Apache’ got back into the swing of things with a good win over Alan Castillo in London in February on the Chris Eubank v James DeGale undercard.

The fight looked to be the start of an association with Al Haymon, who is venturing into the UK market via Richard Poxon and ITV, but this will be put on hold temporarily as Celtic champion Cacace seeks to snatch away the Lonsdale belt on a Queensberry card live on BT Sport.

Bowen [15(11)-0] impressively won the title versus Maxi Hughes last April and ‘The Bullet’ subsequently signed with Warren, first beating Mexican Horacio Cabral to claim the WBO Inter-continental rankings title before coming through Scot Jordan McCorry in a British title defence in March.
