Brass balled Craig McCarthy ‘feeling dangerous’ going into Blaney title fight

Craig McCarthy [7(2)-0] is ‘feeling dangerous’ ahead of his big BUI Celtic title fight with Chris Blaney [12(3)-2(0)-1].

The pair trade leather in Bolton on an aptly named ‘Local Rivalries’ show come December 7 for the prettiest of the domestic straps.

The Deise fighter is adamant the title fight couldn’t have come at a better time and is in no doubt he will record a spring board win.

“I’m just winning,” he told Irish-boxing.com emphatically.

“My mindset is perfect, my conscious and my subconscious believes I’m winning this fight so there for I’m winning.”

Not only does the Steven O’Rourke trained fighter feel in peak mental condition he also points out physically he has never felt better.

The Deise fighter claims dropping from super middle to middleweight will suit him. The well supported title hopeful, who comes into the clash on the back of two knockout wins, states his fitness levels and punching power have both increased of late.

“I’m lighter than I’ve in 6 years already. I’m hitting harder then ever. My all round strength is after increasing and my fitness is all time high. I feel fucking amazing and feel middleweight will be very exciting for me. I’m ready now.”

Blaney was respectful with regard to McCarthy when talking about the fight to Irish-boxing.com last week, but did put forward his case for victory.

The Navan man argued ‘Built to Last’ hadn’t fought anyone of note yet and stressed his experience in tough fights would stand to him over the eight rounds.

The Waterford fighter, has time for his December 7 rival, but does warn Blaney he has proven he has the stomach – or ‘brass balls’ as he likes to put it – for the fight.

“Bring your best and I wish you well in camp,” he tells the ‘Ginja Ninja’.

“Chris is a top bloke. I’ve zero bad vibes for him. Actually I’m very excited and grateful for this opportunity.

“He is a great fighter, been in great scraps with high quality athletes, he is a gentleman and top bloke. This is just business and I’ve a job to do. A job I’m more than capable of doing. I’ve got the brass balls and I can dig very deep. Remember my third fight, the six rounder where I snapped my jaw in half in the second round? I still went the distance to win. I love the warrior side to my sport too.”

Like Blaney, McCarthy see’s the Celtic title fight as a gateway to the Irish title and claims he is ready to kick on.

“I’m gonna’ be open for massive leaps after this fight. I’m always gonna be pushing for the Irish title – and I’m sure we will get other offers.”
