Bigger Eddie is back

Eddie Hyland literally makes a BIG return to boxing to action in the National Stadium on June 25.

The Irish super featherweight champion, who has been out of the ring for 18 months, makes a comeback at middleweight in a four rounder against a yet to be named opponent. The biggest and oldest of the three Irish champion brothers got his taste for the fight game back after sparring sessions with gym mate Robbie Long and is now hungry for a successful return.

I had a couple of fights in 2010 that fell trough then at the end of the year I got married so I took time out. I went back the gym after the weight started to come on, but what really got be wanting to come back was sparring with Robbie Long. Basically I was helping Robbie prepare for a Dolphil Show he was on and I got the buzz back. So I got back training and now I am looking forward to getting back fighting starting on June 25.

Hyland also revealed unlike his brothers, who are hoping to earn European or more significant titles shots within two fights, he has no real long term boxing plans. Like the Spice Girls everyone has a favourite Hyland and due to the fact he has been in some sumptuous all action fights over the years, Eddie is favoured by a lot of Irish fight fans.

And whilst punters might want to see an elongated return from the value for money pro the fighter himself was singing of the one step at a time hymn sheet at the press conference to announce the Battle of the Counties show.

The eldest brother will take a baby step back to action with a four rounder and will survey his options after the bout. However considering he was twice offered EBU super featherweight title shots only to see the fights fall trough we could see all three brothers on the continental title trail very soon.

At the moment I am just concentrating on this fight. I will see how it goes and we will take it from there. So no long terms plans as such.
