Big plans for Sean Creagh remain despite Katie Taylor homecoming hiccup

Sean Creagh [7(2)-1(1)] has reiterated his desire to make sure he has a title packed in his bag before he emigrates to Canada later this year.

The Tallaght light welter leaves these shores for pastures new later in 2018, but is adamant he will do so with a strap of note as part of his luggage.

‘Creaghzy Horse’ starts off what he promises will be a big 12 months with a fight on SK Promotions second card at Citywest on February 3rd – and while it isn’t expected he will face a big name, the Killinarden native has big fights in his sights.

Missing out on a proposed big fight on the seemingly dead-in-the-water Katie Taylor homecoming card has not deterred Creagh, and he enters into his first fight of the year with high hopes.

“I am delighted to be back out and to kick the year off. I want to get some big fights before I head off to Canada with a belt around my waist,” Creagh told Irish-Boxing.com.

“It’s great to be back in Citywest it’s very local to me. There is a great atmosphere in there. It’s a small intimate venue and I am buzzing to get in and fight.”

Having linked back up with MTK and teamed up with N7 coach Eddie Hyland, the 29-year-old feels he has a team around him to help him deliver – and while he fights early next month he has an eye on big things beyond.

“Everything is in place for the year. With MTK looking after me I am in a great place. I would have been in a big fight on Sky only Katie Taylor and her team opted to fight in America instead, but the signs are there suggesting this year is gonna be a big one.”

With former verbal sparring partner Stephen ‘Shortty’ Carroll also teaming up with MTK in recent weeks some would feel comfortable claiming the aforementioned ‘big fight’ would have seen the two finally trade leather.

Having stepped up to face Tyrone McKenna in Belfast, Creagh certainly has shown he is all-Irish fight willing – and the opinion of one of Dublin’s two McKenna victims on his former opponent’s clash with Phil Sutcliff Jr is certainly interesting.

Creagh described how “it’s a great fight but I fancy Phil in a close encounter. I am really looking forward to it.”

“It’s gonna be great fight and respect to both lads for putting it on the line, especially Tyrone he could have got an easier fight. Phil was definitely the hardest route for him.”

“They both want to be the best in Ireland.so they have to fight.”
