Belfast BoxNation bill hit by big withdrawal

The big Belfast BoxNation show has been hit by the withdrawal of one half of one of the headline fights.

The Titanic Exhibition Centre plays host to the exciting-looking bill on Friday October 5th but Irish-Boxing.com can reveal tonight that Declan Geraghty is out of his all-Irish super featherweight clash with Marco McCullough.

‘Pretty Boy’ Geraghty [17(4)-3(2)] was looking to make an immediate return to big fights having suffered a rematch defeat to rival Jono Carroll during the Summer.

The unfortunate news sees Geraghty miss out on a second big fight in 12 months, after being forced to pull out of his original rematch date with Carroll last November following a hand injury.

Similarly, it’s a second big fight to fall through in recent months for McCullough [20(11)-4(3)] who was due to box Carroll back in April after the Dubliner suffered a cut in sparring.

With over a month until fight night, it is hoped that a strong replacement can be found for McCullough.

The Shankill puncher had been in the frame for a shot at British champion Sam Bowen in Leicester on Saturday October 6th. Indeed, Bowen is still looking for an opponent for this BT Sport date so, perhaps, McCullough may also be able to slot in here.

Remaining on the Belfast BoxNation card next month is a super bantamweight clash between Celtic super bantamweight champ Tyrone McCullagh and English titlist Josh Kennedy, a heavyweight firefight between Dubliner Sean Turner and Liverpool’s David Price, as well as appearances from Conrad Cummings, Sean McComb, Steven Donnelly, Steven Ward, Padraig McCrory, Gary Cully, and World-rated Aussie feather Nathaniel May – who is of Belfast stock.
