Belfast big man joins growing Irish pro ranks

The Irish pro scene continues to swell with the addition of another fighter with strong amateur pedigree.

It has been announced this morning that Belfast’s Dee Sullivan has turned pro and will operate in the exciting cruiserweight division.

Sullivan has signed a management deal with MTK Global following a good amateur career.

The Holy Trinity and Emerald graduate won an Ulster Elite title at super heavyweight before moving down to heavyweight and claiming another provincial crown.

Sullivan fought at the Commonwealth Games in Australia last year, losing on a split-decision in the quarter-finals to home favourite and eventual silver medallist Jason Whately.

The popular big man did not compete in the Ulsters or the Irish Elites earlier this year and, 26 this month, he has elected to move into the pros.

MTK Global Professional Development Coordinator Jamie Conlan said that “we’re delighted to be bringing another Belfast boxer of proven class on to our flourishing team.”

“I’ve always enjoyed watching Dee fight and I’m confident fans of professional boxing will do too because he’s all-action.”

“It’s another significant move and we’re building something special for boxing in Belfast, Ireland and across the world. I know Dee is looking forward to playing a part in that and his debut is not to be missed.”

‘The Vanilla Gorilla’ joins a growing cruiserweight domestic landscape which also features the likes of Boxing Ireland’s Conor Cooke [2(1)-0], Assassin’s Johnny Corcoran [2(2)-0], new MTK stablemate Gary Sweeney [4(4)-0] and MHD’s Tommy McCarthy [12(6)-2(1)].

A debut date for Sullivan will be confirmed shortly but it is assumed that he will likely feature on the May 17th show at the Ulster Hall.
