Beardgate Update – Jono Carroll shares post-shave snap

Jono Carroll [16(3)-0-1] has gotten the clippers out and parted ways with Irish boxing’s most impressive beard.

The Dublin super featherweight challenges IBF champion Tevin Farmer tonight in Philadelphia at the Liacouras Center and the topic of his facial fuzz was brought up at yesterday’s weigh-in.

Carroll has aggravated Farmer throughout the build-up and, following a fiery final face-to-face, the Philly home favourite would declare that ‘King Kong’ would need to ditch the beard.

The Irishman, of course, had no issue with the ‘demand’ – which looks like it would have been a requirement anyway going by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission’s rules.

   (1)  Be shaven clean except that the Commission may sanction the wearing of closely cropped mustaches or beards, or both, at its discretion.

This afternoon, Carroll posted an update on his Instagram and showed off a, slightly, new look and a ‘dedication’ to his departed ‘homie’.

Farmer’s insistence on the beard being shaved, he asserted, was merely a vindictive one but Carroll believes his team are somewhat spooked ahead of the headline clash which will play out live on Sky Sports and DAZN.

The 26-year-old would give an insight into discussions and laughed at how the champion’s team are “whinging like little bitches at the Commission about me trimming the aul beard.”

“They were like ‘if it’s not good enough, we’ll make him trim it in the dressing room’.”

The whole team look shook, they’ve never met a cocky little prick like me!”

“He’s not going to know what hit him tonight, I’m going to break him up, mark my words.”

Carroll’s beard has grown increasingly prominent over the past two years but the follicly-blessed fighter’s ‘new’ look is closer to the Jono that burst onto the scene in late 2014.

Indeed, before this, the Finglas-Dunshaughlin man was clean shaven.
