From Bavaria to Belfast – German Giant trains in Ireland ahead of National Championships

The famous Holy Family gym in North Belfast had a visitor last week.

Towering teenage German light heavyweight Kevin Paal came to Ireland for some training, making Ulster his home and getting some invaluable work in.

The Ingolstadt 18-year-old had an Irish experience last year, fighting young prospect Jake Tucker in a multi-nations in Germany last May and the ambitious Paal has been keen to better himself ahead of his own National Championships at the end of next month.

The 6’5″ youngster got in touch with the Tucker family and soon found himself on a plane to Ireland, shacking up in their house in Banbridge and making the daily commute to Belfast.

Paal got plenty of work in with legendary coach Gerry Storey Sr and lots of sparring with the Tucker brothers Jake and Kane [pictured] – as well as strength and conditioning work with Chrissy Burns in Apollo Fitness in Banbridge.

Only boxing four years, Paal has been improving rapidly and the hard-worker has more international training lined up as he seeks to take top spot in a strong boxing nation.

Best of luck to Kevin next month.

The Tuckers are working hard themselves, with Jake preparing for the Irish Youth Championships while Kane returns from an injury that kept him out of the Ulster and Irish Seniors at the start of the year.
