Bad news for Kofi Yates

Top Pro Gif Ad
Kofi Yates [13(1)-2(0)] has been dealt a frustrating blow after having seen his upcoming title fight shelved.

The Manchester-born light welterweight was due to face Scottish star Charlie Flynn [8(1)-0] on October 7th at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, live on Sky Sports, on the undercard of Ricky Burns’s first defence of his WBA light welterweight title against Kiryl Relikh.

The ten-round fight was scheduled to be for the WBA Inter-Continental title, but it has been pulled from the card due to an injury sustained by 22 year old Flynn. The 2014 Commonwealth gold medal winner, where he defeated Belfast’s Joe Fitzpatrick in the final, has suffered fractured ribs and a fractured ankle.

MGM fighter Yates described how “gutted isn’t the word.”

“I’m sorry for anyone that has bought tickets etc, completely out of my hands.”

“Hope to have a date soon.”
