Assassin reveal talks with top amateurs and 10-show 2019 plan

Assassin Promotions plan to run as many as TEN shows in Ireland 2019 and have hinted that some big signings could be in store.

The promoters behind the Ray Moylette ‘Homecoming’ bill in Mayo this Friday – and their inaugural ‘Rise Again’ card in Tallaght in October – are aiming to branch out across the country and put on a range of shows.

The Brighton-based outfit intend to run TV shows, mid-level shows, and dinner shows in the new year in various locations around the country.

TG4 will broadcast this Friday’s bill at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar where Moylette boxes Mexican Christian Uruzquieta for a WBC rankings belt and Assassin claim they are “close” to penning a four-fight deal with the channel.

The Kaz Evans and Conor Slater-run team are exploring the possibility of running dinner shows as well as the more mid-ranged ones like ‘Rise Again’.

Evans told Irish-Boxing.com that “we want to move around. We are scouting out venues and looking at places to go. We are looking at Cavan, Waterford, Cork, we are looking all over the place.”

“We are looking at four tv shows but we are looking to put maybe seven to eight shows on next year. It might even be 10. We are definitely going to move around and even explore dinner shows.”

“2019 is definitely exciting for us.”

A TV show at the WIT Arena for Dylan Moran and a dinner show in Cavan for Owen Duffy both look like strong possibilities while TG4 have big hopes that they can continue to work with Cork’s Spike O’Sullivan – who is co-promoted by Golden Boy Boxing and Assassin’s U.S. partners Murphys Boxing.

Evans noted how “we are building people up, obviously you have Ray on top of this bill but in the background you have different guys.”

“You have people like Dylan Moran, Owen Duffy and guys like that building their records. We will be looking to fast track a few of them.”

In addition to their current stable, which boasts upwards of 20 Irish fighters, Assassin are keen to sign big naems out of the amateurs.

The outfit claim that they are being approached by fighters rather than vice-versa and point to this weekend’s show and the progression of the stable’s star Moylette.

Evans outlined how “over the last year we have seen a massive upturn [in approaches].”

“Since we signed Ray we saw a massive upturn anyway with people contacting us and asking if they can turn over with us. I think Ray is a good example for fighters.”

“We were talking to Dylan Moran today and he wants to follow in Ray’s footsteps from where he was to where he is now. I think it’s that vision and that blueprint that is getting quite a few lads excited.”

“We have had half a dozen top amateurs, household names even, contact us in the last few weeks. We have had people on saying ‘can I sign with you?’. not ‘what can you do for me?’, literally ‘hi there, this is my name, this is what I have done, I really want to sign with you’.”

“So I think it’s picking up momentum now. The more we have these shows, sign great amateurs, the more TV want it and the public love it and it builds onto the next one and the next one and so on.”
