Archie Sharp ready to make a statement against ‘chinny’ Declan Geraghty

Archie Sharp [16(8)-0] has questioned Declan Geraghty’s chin ahead of their eagerly anticipated fight scheduled for this Friday night.

The WBO European rankings title holder defends his title against the Dubliner on a BT Sports broadcast, Royal Albert Hall hosted, Frank Warren promoted card – and is confident of registering a ‘statement’ win.

The undefeated prospect claims his rival, Geraghty [19(4)-4(3)] is ‘chinny’ and has suggested he won’t be surprised if he becomes the fourth person to stop the EU medal winner.

“Both Jono Carroll and Marco McCullough stopped him so I believe Geraghty is a bit chinny. I know he can be hit and we’re hoping for a similar statement. I won’t go looking for the stoppage – the win is all that matters,” said ‘The Sharpshooter’

“I know he’s saying it’s a silly mistake but I think it’s his silly mistake – he might end up being chinned four times after this. Every step up I have, I take in my stride. I was underdog against Woodstock and McCorry was a tough fight too,” he adds before stressing his statement desire.

“Everyone knows he’s a good fighter but we need to make another statement like we did against Jordan McCorry and Leon Woodstock before him. I didn’t get to do much sparring before the McCorry fight and I learned I need that. He was a tough operator and I learned a bit.”

The Frank Warren fighter has made progressive strides since turning over and is starting to move up the ladder.

He feels stylist Geraghty will provide him with the chance to prove he has the ability to defeat a boxer as well as a brawler – and thus cement his status as a potential big time fighter.

“I don’t feel that far away from world level now. I’ve had two tough opponents who came forward and showed a lot of heart. Now I’ve got someone who’s going to use boxing skills to try and draw me on. Once I’ve showed I can beat both styles, I’ll be ready.

Sharp and Geraghty will compete on a bill topped by Daniel Dubois and Ebenezer Tetteh’s Commonwealth title fight and also see’s Nicola Adams return to ring action.
