ANOTHER all-Irish fight confirmed for Celtic Clash 9

A third all-Irish bout has been announced for the ‘Celtic Clash 9’ undercard this Autumn.

The popular Boxing Ireland series returns to the Devenish Venue in Belfast on Saturday October 12th and it was confirmed last night that the bill will feature a super featherweight clash between Kelvin McDonald [2(0)-0] and Aiden Metcalfe [2(0)-1(1)].

The six-round Larne v Dublin battle joins the cruiserweight clash between Conor Cooke [2(1)-0] and Staz Tomasevski [1(0)-0] along with the lightweight chief support of Stephen Webb [1(0)-1(1)] v Martin Quinn [3(1)-1(0)]

Promoter Leonard Gunning noted that it looks set to be the “best Celtic Clash ever.”

McDonald has been impressive in his two fights thus far, showing both flash and grit, especially in his debut versus Alec Bazza.

Metcalfe, on the other hand, has struggled as a pro. Close wins against Polish opposition then led to a BUI Celtic super featherweight title fight versus Allan Phelan and, while he started strongly, Metcalfe was stopped in the sixth round.

The winner on October 12th would move into pole position for the BUI Celtic belt – which was not claimed by Phelan as he had missed weight.

Also confirmed for the card last night was North Belfast welter Owen O’Neill [2(0)-0] whose fans packed out the same venue for his debut back in May.

Bray light middleweight Eddie Treacy and super bantam Sam Carroll are others on the bill which is headlined by Joe Fitzpatrick’s BUI Celtic lightweight title fight with Iago Barros.
