Aaron McKenna handed Hollywood test

Aaron McKenna will look to make it five wins in a row next weekend in California against a good solid opponent.

The Monaghan welter boxes on the inaugural Golden Boy Facebook card at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood on Saturday August 11th and he will face Mexican Rolando Mendivil [10(3)-4(3)] over four rounds.

The Sinaloan 22-year-old has not fought since last June. Starting off at super feather while in his teens, Mendivil has risen through the weights. Fighting on his local dog-eat-dog circuit, he compiled a respectable 10-1 record, with losses coming on the road, most recently versus 9-0 Canadian prospect Will Madera.

McKenna [4(3)-0] has been kept busy since turning pro late last year.

The Smithborough teenager had a debut war with Travis Conley in Las Vegas before rattling off successive Los Angeles knockouts versus Jose Palacios, Keasen Freeman, and Darel Harris.

The Harris fight took place in May, featuring on Sugar Ray Leonard’s charity dinner show where he impressed the Hall of Fame legend.

It is Golden Boy and Sheer Sports’ intention for McKenna to fight as frequently as possible and reach 9-0 by the end of 2018 as he continues his building process in the pros.

‘The Silencer’ is currently based in Los Angeles with South African trainer Courage Tshabala alongside his older brother Stevie who is in the process of making the move to the professional game.

The card next week is headlined by a featherweight clash between recent WBC title challenger JoJo Diaz and Jesus Rojas. Featuring on the undercard alongside McKenna, who opens the broadcast portion of the show, will be Hector Tanajara and Ferdinand Kerobyan while there is a light welterweight clash between Damon Allen and Jonathan Navarro set as the chief support.

The card will be streamed via the Golden Boy Facebook page.
