Call out king ‘Spike’ speaks up for Ormond – calls for Hearn to make ‘Rock’ v ‘Boom Boom’

Stephen Ormond is so adverse to ‘the call out’ some suggest he wouldn’t call out for help if he was drowning next to a boat full of Baywatch’s finest.

The Dublin lightweight is certainly a ‘do your talking in the ring’ kind of fighter and has admitted his principles in regard to smack talk may have cost him over the years.

Considering he shares a close friendship, gym and trainer with one Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan it’s even more surprising the 35 year old has never once attempted to talk his way into the kind of fights he regularly laments have passed him by.

‘The Rock’ has watched on as the Cork fighter has used his gift of the gab and his Twitter skills to secure big fights and pay days particularly with the likes of Chris Eubank Jr and David Lemiuex and still can not bring himself to even plant seeds with regard to potential opponents.

It seems Spike has become somewhat frustrated with his long time stable mates approach and has elected to do the talking for Ormond.

O’Sullivan is aware more than most of the power of planting fight seeds and that Twitter is a tool in which to do just that- and he took to social media yesterday to try do some match making on behalf of the Clondalkin native.

The Mahon man believes a bout between Matchroom crowd pleaser Tommy Coyle and buzzsaw Ormond has Gatti Ward potential and called for Eddie Hearn to make it for June 1.

At 35 the Pascal Collins trained Ormond is desperate to have a big year and wants big fights having cleared the ring rust with a win over Oscar Amdor earlier this month.

Coyle, who delighted American fans with his win over Ryan Kielczweski on his American debut, would certainly fit the bill and Ormond would add further Irish interest to a card that already boasts Katie Taylor.

However, Hearn has claimed he wants the fight night to be a Britian and Ireland versus America card which suggests he has an American in mind for the Hull man.
