Frampton ready to rejoice in sticking two fingers up to the doubters

The say the first time is always the best, but that won’t be the case for Carl Frampton if he becomes a world champ for the fourth time in Manchester on December 22.

If ‘The Jackal’ claims a world title win three days before Christmas it will be the mean more to him than his wins over Kiko Martinez, Scott Quigg and Leo Santa Cruz.

The fan favourite wont’ derive extra meaning because of who mans the opposite corner and already claimed he has better fighters than Warrington on his record, rather it will be special because he feels it will be two fingers to those who questioned him late last year.

Frampton claims the doubters hit full voice after his first career defeat in the rematch with Santa Cruz last December and is determined to prove them wrong by reclaiming a world crown.

“If I win this fight it will mean more than any of my world title wins, because I have been written off,” Frampton explained.

“I want to stick my fingers up to those who wrote me off after the Leo Santa Cruz loss,” he added before stressing he feels in his prime.

“People say I’m on slide but since teaming up with trainer Jamie Moore, promoter Frank Warren and MTK these are my prime years.

“Josh thinks I’m not what I was and a lot of people think that after the Santa Cruz loss and a short camp for my fight against Horacio Garcia. In my last two fights I’ve been as good as ever. If Josh wants to think I’m a shadow of my former self he can.”

Frampton also revealed his best performances to date came when he wasn’t quite enjoying competing and believes falling back in love with the sport will make him more of a treat come December and beyond.

“Look back at interviews I was doing six years ago and I was counting the days to retirement. It was a job, but now I look forward to the gym. I wasn’t enjoying it and still beating good fighters. That says a lot about me.”
