Big Sexy secures fight with highly ranked recent David Haye foe

Sean ‘Big Sexy’ Turner (11-1, 7 KO’s) has been handed the breakthrough opportunity he has been craving.

The Pete Taylor-trained heavyweight will face Arnold Gjergjaj [30(22)-1(1)] on December 9th in Basle, Switzerland.

The three-time Swiss amateur champ provides the MTK puncher with a chance to jump up the World rankings and register a scalp.

Gjergjaj is ranked as high as 37 in the World by BoxRec and a victory over the 33 year old could see Turner do a David Haye by using the Swiss fighter to bolster his ranking.

Haye received criticism from some fans for picking a second relatively unknown opponent when he agreed to fight The Cobra. However, Gjergjaj came into the clash with a good world and European ranking and it seems the Hayemaker made a high reward low risk choice.

Considering he has home advantage and his sole career defeat comes to former two-weight World champion Haye, Gjergjaj may be deemed clear favourite going into the December clash.

However, the vast majority of his wins come against low level opposition and ‘Big Sexy’ will be confident he can cause an upset. Indeed, he may not get a better chance to grab a career changing World ranking.

MTK confirmed the fight had been made this Bank Holiday Monday releasing the following statement.

MTK Global are pleased to confirm top Irish Heavyweight Sean Turner will face Arnold Gjergjaj on December 9th in Basle, Switzerland.

Turner (11-1, 7 KO’s) will make the journey to Switzerland in confident mood after a dominant victory over Blaise Mendouo at the Devenish Complex in Belfast.

The Dublin Heavyweight controlled the six round contest and won every round, landing some heavy combinations throughout the fight. Turner’s performance helped rebuild momentum after suffering his first professional defeat and will be determined to deliver the biggest display of his career to date.

Gjergjaj (30-1, 22 KO’s) suffered his only career defeat at the hands of former unified Cruiserweight and World Heavyweight champion David Haye in 2016.

The Swiss star returned with a big-punching display in December later that year and stopped Jasmin Hasic, dropping the lesser experienced Jasmin Hasic in the fourth before the referee ended the contest in the fifth.

It’s set to be an excellent clash between two exciting Heavyweight boxers and Turner will be looking to pick up the biggest victory of his career.
