Quigg and Gallagher outline plans for Autumn Frampton rematch

Scott Quigg wants an immediate rematch with Carl Frampton.

‘The Jackal’ defeated the former WBA World champion in February to become Ireland’s first ever unified World champ – and broke the Bury man’s jaw in the process.

Quigg has yet to begin sparring again having had a metal pin placed in his jaw, and infections caused by the metal have further stalled his return – so while Frampton is bidding to become a two weight World champion by defeating Leo Santa Cruz in New York on July 30th, his former rival will be forced to have a Summer of inactivity.

The Matchroom fighter does expect to return in the Autumn time, and wants to jump straight back in with the undefeated Belfast fighter.

“I would love a rematch with Frampton. I feel we have unfinished business. Let’s see what happens after he fights Cruz and we could make that fight at different weights.

“That would be a great fight for October-November time,” Quigg told the Daily Star.

His coach Joe Gallagher, who was this year honoured in Sligo for his services to boxing ,and enjoys a fractious relationship with Frampton’s coach Shane McGuigan, echoed his charges sentiment.

“Scott will be looking to fight again in the autumn and Frampton is the fight we want.”

“After he fights Cruz, we will be the biggest fight out there for him. It’s a rematch people would want to see. That’s what we will be pushing for.”

Most of the fan chatter suggests Frampton v Quigg II isn’t one the public will clamour to see again. ‘The Quigg will start fast this time around’ narrative could be sold like fruit on Moore Street, in regular loud intervals, by Sky Sports News, but if Frampton is to return back across the Atlantic for a domestic scrap, a bout with Welshman Lee Selby looks more likely.
