Irish 16 year old boxer turns professional

There are a number of Irish fighters currently battling out for ‘The Irish Canelo’ ring moniker.

Flamed hair trio Steve Collins Jr, Noel Murphy and even Chris Blaney have all staked a ‘Canelo’ claim due to physical resemblance to Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

16 year old Aaron McKenna may not look anything like the aforementioned, with his dark hair and baby faced look, but the Monaghan man just may be able to draw more Canelo comparisons than his red haired counterparts.

Just like the Mexican, who recently stopped Amir Khan, did McKenna will box as a young pro teen in Mexico.

The younger brother of current Irish senior light-flyweight champ Stevie McKenna has elected to turn over at the tender age of 16 and will make his debut in July once he turns 17, two years older than when Alvarez first punched for pay.

McKenna, will not be able to fight in America until he is 18, but will debut at 17 where he bank experience before fighting out of Los Angles.

McKenna, who has often sparred veteran of three World title fights Chrisitna McMahon,  was seen as a possible Olympic hope, but has elected to follow a path less traveled and has officially turned over before his 17 birthday.
