World title fight confirmed for Hughie Fury

Hughie Fury [20(10)-0] has seen his WBO title fight confirmed.

WBO President Paco Valcárcel confirmed the news this afternoon.

The 22 year old, who currently holds the organisation’s Inter-Continental belt, will challenge champion Joseph Parker [22(18)-0] on April 1st in Auckland, New Zealand.

Parker’s promoter, Duco Events, won the right to host the event with a purse bid of $3,000,011 (approximately €2,778,000/£2,398,000) which will be split 60/40 in favour of the champion.

The New Zealander won the title in December with a narrow win over Mexican Andy Ruiz Jr – whom had initially agreed to fight Fury that month.

Fury, whose cousin Tyson held the WBO, WBA, and IBF belts, has not fought since his win over Fred Kassi last April, spending a prolonged period on the sidelines recovering from Acne Conglobata.
