Whelan rolls into European quarter finals

Dublin flyweight Sean Whelan progressed to the last-eight of the European Junior Championships in Lviv, Ukraine today.

The 2013 European Schoolboy Championships silver medalist convincingly beat Vzdzim Nenadavets of Belarus on a unanimous decision.

But Irish captain Aaron McKenna, Zach Mallon, Callum Bradley and Michael Avetisian were beaten this afternoon.

Irish team manager Stephen Connolly said that Mallon gave it 110% this afternoon and was very unlucky to be on the wrong end of a split decision.
