After something of a Summer break, as well as the Rio Olympics, the boxing ‘season’ begins this weekend and there are some Irish fighters in action over in England.

On Friday night at Banks’s Stadium in Wallsall, Navan super middleweight Chris Blaney [1(1)-0] will box in a short-notice four-rounder on a Hatton Promotions bill against a to-be-confirmed opponent.

Meanwhile, at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester, Kieran Farrell will run his second promotion and it will feature middleweights, and former opponents, Tommy Carter [0-1(0)] and Matty Mainwaring [2(0)-0]. Drogheda descendant Carter will take on debutant Nick Golubs, while former Irish international footballer Mainwaring takes on the ultra-durable Lee Griffiths.

Also, at Elland Road in Leeds, Belfast welterweight journeyman Jamesy Gorman [8(3)-24(2)-1] takes on prospect Lee McGhie.

On Saurday night at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan, Belfast super feather Anto Cacace [13(6)-0] makes his return to the ring against a to-be-confirmed opponent.
