WBO champion Valdez wants Frampton Warrington winner

WBO featherweight world champion Oscar Valdez wants to fight the winner of the proposed Carl Frampton Josh Warrington IBF world title fight.

The Mexican has been out injured after suffering a broken jaw in  a March victory over former Frampton foe Scott Quigg.

However, the 27 year old is back training and expects to return by January at the latest.

The fighter, who most likely would have been Frampton’s last opponent but for the injury, is keen to get back punching and as eager to prove he is the best in a very competitive weight.

As a result Valdez has his sights set on his rival world title holders and the winner of the yet to be officially confirmed IBF title fight between Frampton-his mandatory- and Warrington in particular.

“I want to make it clear that I’m the best in the division and there are big fights, there’s Leo Santa Cruz, Gary Russell, Carl Frampton, we’re looking for those fights. We have the mandatory fight with Frampton, but maybe he’s going first with Josh Warrington… and if so, I can wait for the winner,” Valdez told ESPN Deportes, before revealing the comeback plans.

“We are doing very well, as you know, with a new coach, Eddy Reynoso, who is also the coach of Canelo. We are very excited now [because] we can go to Guadalajara to start training, preparing and continue learning. They say that my return is in December, but if not, in January we will be back. We already have those dates in sight.”

While Leo Santa Cruz and the rubber match remain top of ‘The Jackal’s’ wish list he has also expressed a desire to trade leather with the Valdez.

The Mexican could provide big fight passage back to America if the Belfast fighter overcomes Warrington in a fight that is expected to be confirmed for December and Manchester this week.

A Frampton v Valdez unification bout also looks ideal for a potential Windsor return next Summer.
