Waterford’s Dylan Moran signs with American promoter – set for DAZN debut

Dylan Moran [9(5)-0] has signed a promotional agreement with a noteworthy American promoter and will soon fight on a big DAZN and Sky Sports-broadcast show.

The Waterford welter’s career has really taken off since he signed with Assassin Promotions and, after a 2018 which culminated in a TG4-broadcast fight, he looks set to make big moves in 2019.

Irish-Boxing.com can reveal that the 24-year-old welterweight has signed with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing in New York and will get to chance to impress a watching American – and, indeed – UK audience when he fights in at Turning Stone Resort & Casino on Saturday March 9th.

The undefeated Moran will appear on a Matchroom show on the undercard of a world title double-header starring Dmitry Bivol and Maurice Hooker defending their belts against Irish-American Joe Smith of Star Boxing and Mikkel LesPierre respectively.

The DAZN appearance, which is further proof the streaming service see the value of an Irish fighter Stateside, will be Moran’s second fight of 2019 having racked up a four-round win last weekend in London to kick the year off, defeating tough Nicaraguan Oscar Amador

The Kilmacthomas pro will still be managed by Assassin and it’s believed he will fight in Ireland a number of times this year, including a major Waterford homecoming, but will promoted by the American promotional outfit who have a good relationship with Matchroom and, thus, DAZN.

The Star stable features over 30 fighters including Demetrius Andrade, Chris Algieri, and Joshua Clottey.

It’s believed the agreement is a three-year deal and, all going well, Moran should fight an impressive six times this year – including a potential outing in Mexico before his DAZN appearance.

The link up may also benefit some other Irish fighters as it’s rumoured more Assassin fighters could be added to the March 9th card.

For Moran, especially, the move bodes well and could see him link in nicely with Wicklow’s Katie Taylor who is making serious inroads on the U.S. East Coast.
