WATCH: Irish boxer wins ‘Punch of the Month’

It was a left hook which completely swung the momentum of the fight and won an Irish title, and now it has been named the BoxNation Punch of the Month for March.

After recovering from an early knockdown, silky southpaw Declan Geraghty was on top against James Tennyson [18(14)-2(2)] in their Irish super featherweight title fight on March 10th at the Waterfront Hal.

The movement of the Dubliner had him banking rounds as the bout entered its sixth stanza, but ‘The Assassin’ Tennyson was not panicking and eventually hit home with a beautifully set up left hook that had Geraghty down and hurt.

‘Pretty Boy’ rose but, following more pressure and punches, the bout was waved off and saw the big-punching Tennyson reclaim the same belt which he had won as a teenager.

The thunderous left hook was nominated for the BoxNation Punch of the Month, alongside Marco McCullough’s knockdown of Leonel Hernandez on the same show, and it was announced this evening that Tennyson was the winner of a public vote.

Previous Irish winners include Jamie Conlan for his left hook to the body that sent Anthony Nelson down and out last April.
