WATCH: Florida Fights – Classy win for Coyle but shock KO loss for Cooley

There were mixed results last night for the Irish boxers based in Florida.

Derry duo Connor Coyle and John Cooley were both in action on a Fire Fist card at the A La Carte Pavilion in Tampa and had vastly contrasting fortunes.

Light middleweight Coyle scored a dominant six-round points win over Joshua Maxwell on the Golden Boy-streamed card, but super bantamweight Cooley fell to a shock first round knockout defeat against Joseph Cole.

Commonwealth bronze medalist Coyle [6(2)-0] was classy throughout, moving well and throwing nice combinations. The hot prospect scored a knockdown in the fifth following a barrage of shots before claiming a unanimous decision win on the cards (60-53 x3).

Earlier on in the night though there was disappointment for Cooley [2(0)-1(1)]. A backhand right from Cole at the end of the first led to a delayed reaction knockdown as Cooley slumped to one knee and could not beat the count.
